Who We Are
Claudine College of Nursing, Batlagundu is affiliated to Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University (Code 922), Chennai, and approved by the Tamil Nadu Nursing Council and Indian Nursing Council (INC), New Delhi.
The college is situated in an elegant, green environment at Chellampatti. It is a branch of Leonard Hospital, Batlagundu, located 10 km away on the way to Dindigul, with excellent infrastructure and a conducive campus for learning.

This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes (Ps 118:23). True to these words, Claudine College of Nursing was born, marking the beginning of blessing for the college. Merciful love of the Father, farsighted vision of the Founders and pioneers, and the commitment of our sisters made this auspicious occasion possible.
The newly put-up college of nursing building was inaugurated and blessed on 21st December 2021 by Most Rev. Antony Pappusamy, Archbishop of Madurai. The ceremony began with prayer and welcome address. The Archbishop cut the ribbon to open the new building, and Rev. Sr. Fatima Kattar, Provincial Superior of the Madurai Province, opened the foundation stone.
Soon after, a Thanksgiving Eucharistic celebration was presided by the Bishop, followed by a felicitation programme. Priests, religious, parishioners, well-wishers, benefactors and staff joyfully witnessed the event. The programme was meticulously planned and executed by the Batlagundu community sisters and ended with a sumptuous meal for all.
The long-awaited dream of the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod became a reality. The new 60 students arrived for admission and registration, followed by a parents’ and students’ meeting in the college auditorium. Dr. Jeyarani, Principal, introduced the B.Sc Nursing programme and rules. Sr. Felsi, Secretary, spoke on anti-ragging and course procedures. Sr. Gracy, hostel warden, explained hostel rules.
Inaugural function for the 1st batch of B.Sc.(Nursing) for 2021–22 was held on 25th January by Claudine College of Nursing, run by the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod. The programme included prayer on “sculpting oneself”, welcome dance by outgoing DGNM students, and felicitation by Sr. Pushpa, Sr. Vasantha and Sr. Jacqueline on the dignity of the nursing profession.
The 73rd Republic Day was celebrated at Chellampatti. Chief guest Sr. Manohari, Headmistress of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, hoisted the flag. Student parade featured four houses — Claudine, Leonard, Nightingale and Mermier. Competitions included rangoli, poster presentation and relay.
SNA office-bearer elections were held on 9th February 2022. SNA Adviser: Mrs. Sophia Mary Stella; Vice President: Ms. Hemalatha; Secretary: Ms. Thirisha; Treasurer: Ms. Gayathri Devi. The association organises educational programmes and celebrations such as Nurses Day, Teachers Day, World Health Day, Christmas, Pongal, Hospital Day and Hostel Day.
Observed on 11th February 2022. DGNM students performed a skit on the Good Samaritan. Patients, faculty, sisters and students prayed for the sick. B.Sc Nursing students greeted patients with bouquets and wished speedy recovery.
Celebrated on 26th February in the college auditorium. Prof. Dr. Jeyarani Premkumar encouraged students to embrace unique talents. Students presented dance, songs in different languages, mime and plays.
On 4th March 2022, Rotary Club Batlagundu, Leonard Hospital and Claudine College of Nursing arranged an exhibition of posters, charts and models at Leonard Hospital to create awareness on organ and cadaver donation.
Celebrated on 8th March 2022 with DEEPAM Trust (theme: Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow). A rally from Leonard Hospital to ATSS Mahal was started by Sr. Pushpa. About 150 members participated, including staff, self-help groups and students.
Awareness teaching by Sr. Arputha Mary, Vice Principal (theme: Invest to End TB / Save Lives). About 80 students attended. Students also won 2nd prize in quiz and 3rd prize in essay at district-level competitions by DHS Dindigul.
Theme: Our Planet, Our Health. In honour of the day, 80 saplings were planted on the college campus by students.
Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking of the 26th batch of GNM and 1st batch of B.Sc Nursing was held on 27th April at CCON Auditorium. Chief Guest: Rev. Sr. Fatima Kattar, Provincial Superior. Dr. Jeyarani Premkumar and Sr. Arputha Mary lit the lamps of 80 novice nursing students. Oath was administered by Sr. Shiny Choorakatil, Nursing Superintendent.
International Nurses Day was celebrated on 13th May 2022 at CCON auditorium. Theme: Nurses A Voice to Lead — Invest in Nursing and respect rights to secure global health. SNA competitions included face painting, hair decoration, fashion show, songs, dances and quiz.
Celebrated on 6th August 2022 at Leonard Hospital. Theme: Step up for breastfeeding — educate and support. DGNM 3rd-year students presented role play, health talk and mime.
Independence Day was commemorated on 15th August at Leonard Hospital. The 1st Sports Day of Claudine College followed on campus with chief guest Dr. Sr. Phillis Rayar. Houses: Leonard, Claudine, Mermier and Nightingale. Best march-past: Mermier group. Events included javelin, relay, shotput, ringball, shuttle, tug of war, kho-kho, carrom and chess.
Celebrated in the college auditorium with chief guest Rev. Fr. Antony Paulsamy, Secretary of RTU, G. Kallupatti. Batch names announced: B.Sc 1st year – Jacinth; DGNM 1st year – Jasper; DGNM 2nd year – Pearl; DGNM 3rd year – Ruby. Cultural programmes and sports championships marked the day.
Celebrated on 5th September 2022. Faculty were welcomed with gifts and rose plants. Mr. Manoharan, English teacher, inspired the gathering. Games and dance performances followed, ending with high tea.
On 7th September 2022, B.Sc 1st year students presented renal, PCOD, iron, diabetes and hypertension diets at Leonard Hospital wards and OPD for IP/OP patients, using charts, models and health talks.
International NSS Day on 24th September in adopted village Kannapatti. Volunteers cleaned the village and conducted awareness on open defecation, waste disposal, rainwater harvesting and first aid.
College picnic on 1st October 2022 strengthened bonds between students and teachers through a fun-filled day of wet and dry games.
Held on 29th October 2022 by B.Sc 1st year & DGNM 1st year students (80 students in 4 groups). Therapeutic meals prepared: Renal, Hypertension, Iron Rich and Diabetic diets, judged by Principal Dr. Jeyarani Premkumar and faculty.
Jacinth batch welcomed juniors with rose, stationery and cultural programmes. Christmas celebration on 17th December 2022 was organised by SNA under Sr. Amali, with carols, nativity scenes, dances and message by Fr. Paul Raj.
Held on 14th January 2023. Staff and students in traditional attire prepared Pongal together. Competitions like uriyadi and dance programmes raised the festive spirit.
On 24th January 2023, IMA, Leonard Hospital and Rotary Club conducted competitions on skin, eye and blood donation. Claudine College students won all first prizes.
Celebrated on 26th January with prayer, parade and flag hoisting by the Principal, followed by National Anthem and distribution of sweets.
Held on 28th January 2023. Chief Guest: Mrs. Thilagavathy, Director of Maternal & Child Health, Dindigul. Freshers received lighted lamps from Principal Dr. Jeyarani Premkumar and Vice Principal Sr. Arputha Mary; oath led by Sr. Grace. Graduation with diploma certificates followed.
Staff picnic to Rameswaram on 18th February 2023. Student retreat on 1st March with Fr. Wilson SVD on the theme “Faith over Fear”.
Women’s Day with chief guest Dr. Sr. Hilaria Soundari, Professor, Gandhigram University. Faculty attended a 3-day simulation workshop (9–11 March) at Apollo Simulation Centre, Chennai, jointly with Tamil Nadu Nursing Council.
Theme: Yes! We can end TB! Ms. Selvasandhiya won first prize in essay competition. A new Claudine College Hostel — “a home away from home” — opened another successful page in the college annals.
World Health Day awareness display at Leonard Hospital reception (12th April). SNA fundraising food fest on Nurses Day (12th May). International Nurses Day celebrated with cultural fest highlighting nursing pride.
Environment awareness and sapling planting on 5th June. Institutional SNA competitions (14–18 June): dance, monoact, personality contest, speech, sketch, rangoli, painting, athletics and poster presentation.
On 24th June 2023 at Thoppampatti Govt School for the 100th birthday of Thiru. M. Karunanidhi. Around 6000 people benefited. Inaugurated by Minister R. Sakkarapani. Claudine students rendered dedicated service.
Zonal competition at GTN CON Dindigul (3rd July) — Claudine students won many prizes. State SNA Biennial Conference at Salem (10–13 August): Ms. Preetha (B.Sc 1st year) won 1st prize in poster presentation and advanced to national level.
Visits to slaughterhouse, water purification plant and Dodla Dairy. Puppetry training by Mr. Babudasan. Independence Day celebrated with parade and patriotic programmes; chief guest Dr. Sr. Jacqueline.
Chief guest Mr. Balamurugan, Constable, Pattiveeranpatti. March-past, drills, pyramids, athletics and Olympic torch highlight. Winners awarded; a day of excitement and cheers.
Nutrition displays on 7th September. Picnic to Wonderla Kochi on 23rd October. World Heart Day awareness at Dindigul Govt Medical College Hospital on 29th September.
Second batch of B.Sc students welcomed juniors (2023–24) on 9th October. Talent’s Day for 3rd batch B.Sc and 27th GNM batch. School health programme, Children’s Day, World Diabetes Day, National SNA conference at Delhi, Viksit Bharat @2047, Christmas celebration (20th December) and Lamp Lighting Ceremony 2023 marked a vibrant year.
Claudine family visitation strengthened the spiritual and institutional bond of the Sisters of the Cross heritage with the college community.
Students and staff celebrated International Women’s Day with programmes affirming dignity, equality and the role of women in society and healthcare.
Awareness activities and competitions continued the college commitment to TB prevention education and community health messaging.
Students and staff participated in disaster preparedness drill to strengthen emergency response skills on campus.
The college community took the voters’ pledge, affirming democratic responsibility and civic awareness among student nurses.
An important academic milestone as the University Vice-Chancellor visited Claudine College of Nursing, encouraging excellence in nursing education.
International Nurses Day was celebrated with pride in the profession, cultural programmes and recognition of nursing service.
Health awareness programmes educated the community on prevention and management of hypertension.
The Claudine hostel was blessed, reinforcing the college commitment to a secure, caring residential environment for students.
Recreational & Occupational Therapy at Mesmer Hospital, Dindigul (7th June); Blood Donation Day (14th June); International Day Against Drug Abuse (26th June); visit to mentally retarded home at Nilakottai (6th July); first-aid awareness at Sevugampatti Govt Hr. Sec. School (12th July); Old Age Home visit (20th July); and clinical posting at Dindigul Vadamalayan (8–19 July).
Claudine Novena Prayer on 1st August 2024. Breastfeeding Week programme on 2nd August continued maternal and child health education.
Community dengue awareness programme by students at Chellampatti to promote prevention and early care.
Students represented Claudine College at CMC Vellore competitions, gaining academic exposure and competitive experience.
Teachers’ Day on 5th September 2024; Nutrition Week on 7th September 2024; and Breast Cancer Awareness programme at Leonard Hospital — continuing Claudine’s mission of education, gratitude and community health service.
